Beaches  in Kalkan

On holiday, swimming and getting a tan is normally a top priority and because Kalkan has sunshine for at least 9 months of the year, it is a popular destination for anyone who wants to spend days on beaches. Three beaches in the area as well as smaller beach clubs provide many amenities and facilities for holidaymakers.

Three Beaches around the Kalkan area

Town Public Beach

Kalkan public beach has been rewarded with the blue flag for clean sand and clear waters. Open to the public throughout the summer, repeat guests to the resort love spending by the whole day by the clear turquoise sea.

The beach consists of small pebbles, which means it is not so much work, when it is time to leave, compared to having been at a fine sandy beach. There are convenient showers situated at the back, and sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented. For lunch and refreshments, simply head to anyone of the nearby restaurants.

Patara Beach

About 15 minutes’ drive away from Kalkan, Patara beach is the longest natural beach in Turkey. It is 12 km of gorgeous sand, shallow sea and stunning scenery. The wind almost never stops blowing in Patara and that is why it is good for windsurfing.

The beach is under protection from development because the Caretta Caretta sea turtles lay their eggs there. A few restaurants sell food and drink and if there are other members of your group, who are not beach fans, they can head off to explore the nearby ancient ruins and small, rustic village.

Patara Beach

Kaputaş Beach

Probably one of the most photographed beaches in Turkey, it is located at the sea entrance to a large canyon on the coastal road.  It is only 10 minutes’ drive away from Kalkan and the sea color is turquoise. However be warned that there are 187 steps to reach the beach.

TIP: Hire a car for the day and visit both Kaputas and Patara. More details about our car hire service can be found here.

We also visit Kaputas and Patara on our day and night boat trip. This is also a great oppurtunity to explore some of the lesser known scenic coves and secluded bays of the coastline. Read more about the sailing itinerary here.
