Places of Interest and Landmarks

Kalkan belongs to a stretch of coastline that is historically rich and naturally gorgeous. Sites of interest and local attractions are in abundance. They include…

Fethiye Region: This area is a centre of activity and interesting sites, including the ghost village of Kayakoy, the blue lagoon that is the most photographed beach in Turkey, and the large market that is the perfect way to indulge in Turkish culture.

Saklikent gorge and Tlos : Combine the natural beauty of the gorge of Saklikent, with the historical, nearby ruins of Tlos and its ancient Lycian rock tombs, looking out over Xanthos Valley. In between, stop for lunch at the famous Yakapark, high in the mountains.

The Church of Santa Claus: He was a real person called Saint Nicholas and later, he became bishop of Myra. After exploring the ruins, visit his church that is nearby and also a centre for catholic pilgrims.

The Greek Island of Meis: Reached by ferry, this is a delightful island to explore. While there, do not forget to visit the naturally stunning, blue cave, accessible only by small boat.

Explore Smoke Mountain: Reached by jeep safari, this day is all about getting off the beaten track, away from tourist spots and into small, traditional villages. A BBQ lunch and scenic views are just two of the highlights.

Gombe : When the summer heat, gets too hot, some locals escape into the mountains to traditional Yayla houses. Join them for breakfast, marvel at gushing waterfalls, see Gombe lake and hike to amazing panoramic landscape views.

Pamukkale and Ephesus : An overnight stay is needed to explore these two beauties but it is worth it, because Ephesus was the second largest city of the Roman empire and the natural pools of Pamukkale are an UNESCO world heritage site, also nicknamed the cotton castle.

Other Activities To Do

Hire a car: Get around on your own schedule and with flexibility by hiring a car. We provide you with information on driving rules and can suggest places to go. Daily and weekly rates are available. Alternatively, if you just want to get around Kalkan, hire a scooter instead.

Trek the Lycian Way: Consisting of ruins dating from the Lycian era, this 516-kilometre walk can be completed in stages. You can hire a guide or complete a  self-guided walk.

Paragliding: Ideal for adrenaline rushes, this is popular in the neighbouring resort of Kas.  Completed tandem style with a professional pilot, it is a rather unique way to see the landscape. I want to do this…

Turkish Bath: A experience of culture that should ideally be done at the beginning of your holiday. Enter a sauna, enjoy a Turkish loofer rub-down and finish it off with the optional extra of a de-stressing massage.
